1 Email Environment
1.1 No in-house Email Server, the end-user getting emails from external service provider
1.1.1 Using Europa as the internal email server and a SPAM filter
See Enable the email server for a domain (below)
The end-user continues to pull down the emails from external service provider.
- From Europa user's Quarantine Manager page > Email Admin > MPOP Setup > Fill-in MPOP account information.
User then changes email program's both incoming/outgoing fields from the service provider to Europa.
- Example: Outlook Express > Internet Mail Account > Properties > Servers > Change the Incoming/Outgoing mail fields to Europa IP address.
Note: If your internet service provider (such as Rogers/Bell Home Internet service) blocking all the outgoing SMTP port traffic, the end-user should not change the outgoing mail field to Europa.
1.1.2 Using Europa as the external Email Server and a SPAM filter
See Setup Europa as an external Email Server (below). The rest is same as above.
1.2 Has an in-house Email Server, already receiving emails from external MTA
Please verify the setup with Setup Europa as an external Email Server (below) and Enable the email server for a domain (below).
1.2.1 Email Server only
- Europa administrator setup the domain information and the domain user(s) information.
- Europa System - Service Info > Domain Service Setup > select a domain
- Select No in Enable Email Service
- Change the email deliver to address by filling in Email Server IP address.
- On firewall, change the SMTP port (25) forwarding address from the existing email server to Europa IP address.
1.2.2 Email Server build-in SPAM filter software
Same setup as above and you should consider to disable or to uninstall this software since
- Europa already protecting your email server from IP connection and SMTP email levels.
- Europa aleady filter out SPAM, virus, and perform Black/White listing for the user.
- In general, this type of software consuming system resources and slow down your email server.
1.2.3 Another email filter appliance and Email Server
In general, you can disconnect this email filter appliance and replaced it by Europa. Just in case, you want to serialize Europa with this appliance:
1.2.3.1 Put Europa in between this appliance and email server
- Europa System - System setup
- Select Yes in Behind Mail Gateway and fill-in Mail Gateway IP address.
- Europa System - Service Info > Domain Service Setup > select a domain
- Select No in Enable Email Service and fill-in Email Server IP address.
- Logon to that appliance, change the delivery IP address from email server to Europa.
1.2.3.2 Put Europa in front and deliver email to that appliance
This means Europa will deliver email(s) to that appliance instead of to a real email server
- Europa System - Service Info > Domain Service Setup > select a domain
- Select No in Enable Email Service and fill-in that appliance IP address in Email Server field.
1.3 Using External Email Filtering Service
See Has an in-house Email Server, already receiving emails from external MTA (above) to configurate your Europa. Once Europa is protecting your email server, you can consider:
- Redirect the email traffic to your IP address by changing your MX record to your IP address.
- Note: The DNS reverse lookup PTR record is highly recommended, you should change the MX and the PTR records at once.
- See the How can I verify my DNS, MX, PTR, Mail records? section (below).
- Once you can directly receiving email from other MTA, you can cancel that external email filtering service.
2 Miscellaneous
2.1 Setup Europa as an external Email Server
Basic requirement: Broadband internet connection and a firewall which has port forwarding functionary.
2.1.1 Already has a domain name and a static IP address
- Enable the email server for a domain (below)
- Add or change the SMTP port forwarding rule into the firewall: from external port 25 to internal Europa IP port 25.
- Change your domain MX record to your static IP address.
- This static IP address configuration is highly recommended for business users.
2.1.2 Has a domain name with dynamic IP address and DDNS service
Same setup as above. You may experience some delay in between your IP changes and DDNS entry is not updated. In general, this delay time is short, and most MTA will try to resend before reporting 'fail to deliver'.
- This dynamic IP address configuration is only recommended for home or small business users.
2.2 Enable the email server for a domain
- From Europa admin page > System - Service Info
- If Service Activation Status features Email Service is not Activated, your did not purchase this feature, please call Jovian support for help.
- Select a domain from Domain Service Setup
- Select Yes for the Enable Email Service
- Click Update to save the setup
2.3 How can I verify my DNS, MX, PTR, Mail records?
- Go to http://www.dnsreport.com and enter your domain name.
- Check any warning and error in MX and Mail sections.
- For Europa to send out email, it is highly recommended to PASS the Reverse DNS (PTR) entries for MX records testing.
- Note: This test can only apply to the domain name with static IP address.
